This is the first hydrogen producing and refueling station in which the water electrolysis technology is adopted in Hunan Province. Covering a total area of 2200 m2, this station is made up of the hydrogen refueling area, main equipment area, auxiliary equipment area, and hydrogen discharging area. The main equipment area further consists of the hydrogen producing area, hydrogen storage area, compression area, and cooling equipment area. The station is equipped with a 200 Nm3/h alkaline electrolysis system, a 500 kg/d hydrogen refueling system and 580 kg/d hydrogen storage cylinders, which can meet the demand for hydrogen used for the demonstration operation of 30 hydrogen-fueled mixer trucks and end-of-line commissioning of 10 hydrogen-fueled heavy trucks.

Hydrogen production through water electrolysis is a more convenient method. Direct current is passed through an electrolytic cell filled with potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide, and water molecules undergo an electrochemical reaction on the electrodes and decompose into hydrogen and oxygen. Its chemical reaction formula is as follows:
Cathode: 2H2O+2e H2↑ +2OH
Anode: 2OH-2e H2O+1/2O2↑
Total reaction formula: 2H2O 2 H2↑+ O2↑
According to Coulomb's law, gas production is proportional to current and has nothing to do with other factors. The function of potassium hydroxide is to increase the conductivity of water. It does not participate in the electrolysis reaction and is theoretically not consumed. The function of adding vitriol pentoxide to the electrolyte is to reduce the electrolysis voltage. The power consumption per unit gas output depends on the electrolysis voltage. The higher the operating temperature of the electrolytic cell, the lower the electrolysis voltage. At the same time, it also increases the corrosion of the electrolytic cell materials, mainly the diaphragm material. The long-term use temperature of asbestos in alkali solution cannot exceed 100°C, so the operating temperature is preferably 80~85°C. The choice of electrolysis pressure is mainly based on the need for hydrogen. The purity of the gas depends on the structure and operation of the hydrogen generator. Under the condition that the equipment is intact (mainly the electrolytic cell diaphragm is not damaged) and the operating pressure is normal (mainly the pressure difference control is normal), the purity is stable.
